Lise Meitner: Background Info
Lise Meitner was born on November 7th, 1878, in Vienna, Austria. She grew up in Sweden but later moved to different European countries. She grew up in a Jewish family, the third of eight children. Lise applied to a college, taking the test called the Matura, and finished an eight year course in two years. After applying and being accpeted, five years later she earned her PhD in Physics. She was a nurse in the first world war, working with X-Ray equipment. Being a woman, people doubted her skills but later proved them wrong. Studying with Otto Hahn, she learned and experimented with nuclear physics. She earned many awards throughout her lifetime. She died on October 27th, 1968.
